The Department of Engineering Science is one of the largest unified engineering departments in the UK and one of the largest departments in the University of Oxford. Its teaching and research cover the whole range of engineering disciplines for more than 600 undergraduates and around 200 research students. The research group involved in LEMCOTEC has researched the flow and heat transfer phenomena important to gas turbine flows for over 30 years and has built an international reputation for novel flow simulation strategies and innovative instrumentation. The group is particularly strong in transient instrumentation techniques and works closely with industrial collaborators, particularly Rolls-Royce Aerospace, in many research areas.
UOXF is leading the development of a unique experimental database relating to a film-cooled HP turbine and low turning strut and improves design tools through validation of CFD and other design methodologies.
